Presentation of flamenco.

In november 2010 Unesco declared Flamenco as cultural Heritage.
Flamenco is a Spanish dance and music genre, created in Andalusia in the 18th century with Andalusian music and dance as its base. Gypsies created and developed this genre. Andalusia folk songs, dances and the guitar are its main aspects.

Flamenco is also known as cante grande, hondo or jondo. It´s an artistic expression that has its origin in popular celebrations, such as weddings and its characterised by its simple accompaniment.

Singing is performed without music and dance is accompanied by the clapping of hands and stumping of feet. Guitars came into use in the 20th century
Originally words and scripts dealt with private lives and were sang in first person in familiar contexts.
Later, more literary, pretentious and educated rhymes and lyrics were introduced together with rhythms , dances, oriental and Moorish influences ,passion and the tragic and melancholy tone of the gypsy soul gave way to el cante flamenco.
There is a great variety of songs and dances that are all based on basic categories or palos (classified according to rhythm, depth, festive or serious character, geographical origin) which are the following Soleá (bulerías, cantiñas, alegrías…), Seguiriya (cabales, serranas…), Tango (tientos, marianas…), Fandango (rondeña, Huelva, malagueñas, granaínas…) y Petenera.
Like all forms of popular art, flamenco is in a constant state of evolution and recreation.
As a result, there are great varieties of Flamenco today, with influences from South America to mining work, to present day conditions. Flamenco music has very diverse musical forms.
Mercedes

Having said all of this, we are going to try to give you a global image of flamenco in this modest show, starring the students of IES Miguel de Cervantes: Aisha, Ángela y Constanza.
First they’re going to dance a Bulería. Bulería is a style of flamenco song and dance from Jerez, in Cádiz.

Now they’ll dance a tango, which is another style of flamenco song.

ROSA MARIA- CAMARÓN DE LA ISLA

And finally, they’ll dance Sevillanas. Sevillanas are from Seville but they are a popular dance in fairs all over Andalusia.

The Beatles –Mercedes León

The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. They are one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. From 1962, the group consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). Rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock and roll, the group later worked in many genres ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements in innovative ways. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as "Beatlemania", transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. They came to be perceived as the embodiment of ideals of the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

Lennon was murdered outside his home in New York City in 1980, and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr remain active

The cavern - Mathew Street

Mathew Street is a street in Liverpool, England, best-known worldwide as the location of the Cavern Club, where The Beatles played on numerous occasions in their early career. It is the centre of the Mathew Street Festival, which fills the streets of Liverpool every Summer.

Mathew Street sign

The street connects Rainford Gardens (off Whitechapel)to North John Street, and is located in an area of the city centre known today as "The Cavern Quarter". Historically it was the centre of Liverpool's wholesale fruit and vegetable market.

The Cavern

By David

Alan Sytner opened the club having been inspired by Paris's Jazz district where there were a number of clubs in cellars. Sytner returned to Liverpool and wanted to open a club similar to Le Caveau in Paris. He eventually found a perfect cellar for his club—which had been used as an air raid shelter during the war—and opened it on 16 January 1957. The first act to open the club was the Merseysippi Jazz Band.

What started as a jazz club eventually became a hangout for skiffle groups. Whilst playing golf with Sytner's father, Dr. Joseph Sytner, Nigel Walley—who had left school at 15 to become an apprentice golf professional at the Lee Park Golf Club—asked Dr. Sytner if his son could book The Quarrymen at The Cavern, which was one of three jazz clubs he managed. Dr. Sytner suggested that the band should play at the golf club first, so as to assess their talent, which they did. Sytner phoned Walley a week later and offered the band an interlude spot playing skiffle between the performances of two jazz bands at The Cavern, on Wednesday 7 August 1957.

In the decade that followed, a wide variety of popular acts appeared at the club, including The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Elton John, Queen, The Who and John Lee Hooker and the most famous pop band in the history The Beatles.

Blackpool

By Consti.

Blackpool is a seaside town. It is situated along England's west coast by the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries. It has a population of 142,900, making it the third most populous settlement in North West England.

Throughout the Middle Ages and Early Modern period, Blackpool was a coastal hamlet in Lancashire's Hundred of Amounderness, and remained such until the mid-18th century when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast during Summer to bathe in sea water to improve wellbeing.

Blackpool rose to prominence as a major centre of tourism in England when a railway was built in the 1840s connecting it to the industrialised regions of northern England. The railway made it much easier and cheaper for visitors to reach Blackpool. In 1881 Blackpool was a booming resort with a population of 14,000 and a promenade complete with piers, fortune-tellers, public houses, tram and donkey rides, fish-and-chip shops, theatres. By 1901 the population of Blackpool was 47,000, by which time its place was cemented as "the archetypal British seaside resort”. By 1951 it had grown to 147,000.

Shifts in tastes and sensibilities, combined with opportunities for Britons to travel overseas, supplanted Blackpool's status as a leading resort during the late-20th century. Nevertheless, Blackpool's urban fabric and economy remains relatively undiversified, and firmly rooted in the tourism sector, and the borough's seafront continues to attract millions of visitors every year.In addition to its sandy beaches, Blackpool's major attractions and landmarks include the Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations, the Pleasure Beach Blackpool, and the Winter Gardens.

MONEY

by Simón
In UK the oficial currency is a pound, 1 pound is 1,14 euros. Sterling is the fourth most traded currency in the foreign exchange market, after the US dollar, the euro and the Japanese yen.
Since decimalisation in 1971, the pound has been divided into 100 pence. The symbol for the penny is "p"; hence an amount such as 50p (£0.50) properly pronounced "fifty pence" is more colloquially, quite often, pronounced "fifty pee". This also helped to distinguish between new and old pence amounts during the changeover to the decimal system. A decimal halfpenny was issued until 1984. Prior to decimalisation, the pound was divided into 20 shillings and each shilling into 12 pence, making 240 pence to the pound. The symbol for the shilling was "s."

LIVERPOOL ROYAL LIVER BUILDING

by Aisha

The building is 90 meters away in liverpool. It is topped by 2 watches of 7.5 meters in diameter are larger than the big bang.
According to tradition say that had these watches so that the sailors could see the time, these clocks were put into operation when King George Vera was crowned in June 22 the 1911.
And on top of each tower are the Liverbirds, there are several legends but the more credible is one eagle looks to the city to protect the inhabitants and the oders eagle looks to the sea to protect the sailor who come to LIverpool.
But they also say that the day that the liverbirds go fly, Liverpool city will disappear.

Liverpool

by Alejandro

It is the fourth largest city in the United Kingdom with a population of 435,50. Inhabitants of Liverpool are referred to as Liverpudlians but are also colloquially known as "Scousers", in reference to the local dish known as "scouse", a form of stew. The word "Scouse" has also become synonymous with the Liverpool accent and dialect.
The popularity of The Beatles and the other groups from the Merseybeat era contributes to Liverpool's status as a tourist destination; tourism forms a significant part of the city's modern economy.
Liverpool is also the home of two Premier League football clubs, Liverpool F.C. and Everton F.C.. Matches between the two clubs are known as the Merseyside derby.

Places to be visited
Waterfront and docks
As a major British port, the docks in Liverpool have historically been central to the city's development. The most well known dock in Liverpool is the Albert Dock.

The area is dominated by neo-classical architecture, of which the most prominent, St George's Hall, is widely regarded as the best example of a neo-classical building anywhere in Europe.

FOOD

by María
Since the Early Modern Period the food of England has historically been characterised by its simplicity of approach, honesty of flavour, and a reliance on the high quality of natural produce.During the Middle Ages and through the Renaissance period, English cuisine enjoyed an excellent reputation, though a decline began during the Industrial Revolution with the move away from the land and increasing urbanisation of the populace. The French sometimes referred to English people as les rosbifs, as a stereotype to suggest English food is unsophisticated or crude. The cuisine of England has, however, recently undergone a revival, which has been recognised by the food critics with some good ratings in Restaurant's best restaurant in the world charts. An early book of English recipes is the Forme of Cury from the royal court of Richard II.

Traditional examples of English food include the Sunday roast; featuring a roasted joint, usually beef, lamb or chicken, served with assorted boiled vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Other prominent meals include fish and chips and the full English breakfast—consisting of bacon, grilled tomatoes, fried bread, black pudding, baked beans, fried mushrooms, sausages and eggs. Various meat pies are consumed such as steak and kidney pie, cottage pie, Cornish pasty and pork pie, the latter of which is consumed cold.
Sausages are commonly eaten, either as bangers and mash or toad in the hole. Lancashire hotpot is a well known stew. Some of the most popular cheeses are Cheddar and Wensleydale. Many Anglo-Indian hybrid dishes, curries, have been created such as chicken tikka masala and balti. Sweet English dishes include apple pie, mince pies, spotted dick, scones, Eccles cakes, custard and sticky toffee pudding. Common drinks include tea, which became far more widely drunk due to Catherine of Braganza, while alcoholic drinks include wines and English beers such as bitter, mild, stout, and brown ale.
